Frequently asked questions

What is a CP42 certificate?

A CP42 certificate confirms that the gas appliances, pipework and associated equipment within a commercial catering kitchen have been inspected by a Gas Safe registered engineer and found to meet the required safety standards at the time of inspection. It is commonly required for restaurants, cafés, pubs, hotels, schools, care homes and any commercial premises using fixed catering equipment. During the inspection we check appliances, gas pipework, emergency isolation, ventilation, flues and the overall safety of the installation. If everything meets the required standard, your CP42 certificate is issued. If we identify any safety concerns, we will explain them clearly and advise what remedial work is required before certification can be completed.

What is a CP44 certificate?

A CP44 certificate is the gas safety certificate used for mobile catering units that operate with LPG. It applies to food vans, catering trailers, horseboxes, mobile coffee units, market stalls and other portable catering businesses using bottled gas. The inspection includes LPG appliances, regulators, hoses, pipework, connections and safety devices. We also check for gas leaks, correct installation and safe operation before issuing certification. Regular CP44 inspections help protect staff, customers and your business while showing event organisers, markets, insurers and local authorities that your mobile catering setup has been professionally inspected.

How long does an inspection take?

Most commercial gas safety inspections take around one hour on site, although larger premises or installations with multiple appliances may take longer. The exact time depends on the number of gas appliances, the complexity of the installation and whether any faults need further investigation. Our engineer will carry out the inspection methodically to ensure every safety check is completed properly. We do not rush an inspection simply to reduce the visit time. Once the inspection is complete, we will explain the findings and, where appropriate, issue your certificate or discuss any remedial work required before certification can be completed.

How often do I need a gas certificate?

For most commercial catering businesses, gas safety inspections should be carried out every 12 months. Annual inspections help ensure your appliances continue operating safely and provide evidence that your business is maintaining its gas installation responsibly. Many insurers, landlords, event organisers and local authorities also expect commercial catering businesses to keep up-to-date gas safety documentation. Even if your equipment appears to be working normally, regular inspections can identify wear, damage or developing faults before they become serious safety issues or cause unexpected downtime.

What happens after the inspection?

Once the inspection has been completed, the engineer will explain the results and answer any questions you may have. If the installation meets the required safety standards, your certificate will be issued. If any issues are identified, we will explain exactly what has been found, why it affects compliance or safety, and what needs to be done to rectify the problem. Wherever possible we aim to provide practical advice and, if appropriate, arrange any remedial work required. The aim is not simply to issue certificates, but to help you keep your business operating safely and legally.

Do you work evenings and weekends?

Yes. We understand that many commercial kitchens are busiest during normal business hours, so we offer appointments throughout the week, including evenings and weekends where availability allows. Flexible appointment times help minimise disruption to restaurants, cafés, pubs, hotels, schools, care homes and mobile catering businesses. When booking, let us know your preferred day and time and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule. Early booking is recommended for weekend appointments, particularly during busy periods.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. We provide emergency commercial gas call-out services for urgent situations including appliance failures, gas interlock faults, ventilation-related shutdowns and suspected gas safety issues. If your business cannot operate safely or has experienced a sudden gas-related problem, contact us as soon as possible. We aim to attend as quickly as possible. Many emergency call-outs are reached within around one hour depending on engineer availability, traffic and your location. Our priority is to make the installation safe, identify the fault and advise on the quickest and safest route back to normal operation.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major debit and credit cards as well as secure online payments when booking through the website. If you prefer, payment can also be arranged during your appointment where appropriate. For regular commercial customers or businesses with multiple locations, alternative invoicing arrangements may be available by prior agreement. If you have specific purchasing or accounts requirements, contact us before your appointment and we will confirm the available payment options for your business.
