Service boundaries

Inspection, servicing and repairs

Gas safety inspections and certificates

CP42 and CP44 visits inspect the relevant installation within the booked scope and produce the appropriate certificate or safety record.

Catering appliance servicing

Servicing is separate from certification. Availability depends on the attending engineer’s verified appliance and fuel competencies.

Commercial catering gas repairs

Inspection prices do not automatically include repairs, parts or remedial work. Identified work is quoted separately unless expressly included.

LPG catering systems

Depending on the booked service, LPG checks may include cylinders, restraints, regulators, hoses, pipework, isolation and appliance safety devices.

Clear inspection process

What happens during a visit?

01

Confirm the service

The engineer confirms the premises or mobile unit, appliance count, fuel type and requested inspection.

02

Inspect the installation

Relevant appliances, pipework, isolation, ventilation and safety controls are examined within the booked service scope.

03

Test the system

Applicable pressure, tightness, combustion, flame-failure, interlock or ventilation checks are completed.

04

Record defects

Unsafe conditions, defects and recommended remedial actions are documented.

05

Issue the record

The engineer issues the appropriate certificate, report or inspection record when the work is complete.

A certificate cannot confirm that an unsafe installation is satisfactory. Defects may require remedial work and reinspection.

CP42 and fixed installations

Fixed commercial kitchens

Services are suitable for restaurants, cafés, pubs, hotels, schools, care homes, village halls, event venues, production kitchens and takeaways.

CP44 and mobile LPG

Mobile catering units

Services are suitable for catering trailers, food trucks, converted vans, burger vans, horsebox conversions, market units, festival caterers, mobile pizza units and coffee trailers.

Verified scope only

Appliances, systems and qualifications

The appliance and system scope depends on the attending engineer’s verified Gas Safe and commercial catering competencies. Confirm unusual or specialist appliances before booking.

Work must be completed by an engineer whose registered competencies match the fuel, appliance and installation. Final company, engineer and registration details are completed during website personalisation.

  • Missing or unsuitable isolation controls
  • Defective flame-failure devices
  • Inadequate ventilation or combustion air
  • Blocked, damaged or unsuitable flues

Commercial catering FAQs

Questions about gas inspections and certificates

What is a commercial catering gas engineer?

A commercial catering gas engineer works on gas appliances, pipework and safety systems used in commercial kitchens and mobile catering units. The engineer must hold the Gas Safe competencies relevant to the fuel, appliance and type of installation.

Do I need CP42 or CP44?

CP42 is generally used for fixed commercial catering premises. CP44 is used for mobile catering units such as trailers, food trucks and catering vans. Contact GetGasCert before booking when the correct service is unclear.

What does a CP42 inspection cover?

The booked CP42 service checks relevant fixed catering appliances, pipework, isolation, safety devices, flues and ventilation within the agreed inspection scope. Defects and remedial recommendations are recorded.

What does a CP44 inspection cover?

The booked CP44 service covers relevant mobile catering appliances and LPG equipment within the agreed scope, which may include cylinders, restraints, regulators, hoses, pipework, isolation, ventilation and appliance safety devices.

Can you inspect LPG catering equipment?

LPG checks are available for fixed and mobile catering systems where the attending engineer holds the competencies required for the installation and appliances. Confirm unusual or specialist equipment before booking.

Does the visit include repairs?

Inspection and certification prices do not automatically include repairs, replacement parts or remedial work unless the booked service explicitly states otherwise.

What happens if the installation fails?

Unsafe conditions and defects are recorded. Remedial work and a further inspection may be required before the installation can be confirmed as satisfactory.

Do you test gas interlock systems?

A separate gas interlock check is available for commercial kitchens. It covers the agreed function-testing scope for fan proving, emergency controls, gas shut-off and related safety operation.

Do you inspect kitchen ventilation?

A separate extraction and ventilation inspection is available. It is a condition and safety inspection and does not include full system design or engineering calculations unless expressly stated.

Can I book and pay online?
