Start with the installation

The certificate code is not the starting point

Begin with the premises, fuel, appliances and work required. A restaurant kitchen, mobile catering trailer, landlord property and commercial plant room do not follow the same service route. This guide helps narrow the choice before you book or request a quote.

Before booking

Four-step selection check

  1. Identify whether the premises are domestic, fixed commercial catering, mobile catering or broader non-domestic plant and pipework.
  2. List the appliances, fuel type, cylinders, pipework, ventilation, interlocks and plant that may need to be included.
  3. Use the published booking route for standard CP12, CP42 or CP44 work, or request a quotation for specialist commercial scope.
  4. Send photographs and site details before attendance where the installation is unusual, mixed-use or difficult to describe.

Prepare the site

Information and access reduce wasted visits

Good preparation helps the engineer understand the installation, complete the agreed scope and identify any separate remedial work clearly.

  • Make appliances, controls, emergency stops and isolation points accessible.
  • Have existing records, previous certificates and known fault information available.
  • Confirm that extraction, ventilation and interlock systems can be operated during the visit.
  • Ensure a responsible person can explain the site layout and authorise access.
  • Report suspected leaks, unsafe operation or emergency concerns immediately rather than waiting for a routine certificate visit.

Common questions

Certificate selection FAQs

Is one certificate suitable for every commercial gas installation?

No. The appropriate route depends on the premises, appliances, fuel, installation and work required. A fixed commercial kitchen, mobile catering unit and commercial plant room can require different inspection and reporting scopes.

Can CP42 cover a food truck or catering trailer?

Mobile catering is normally directed to the CP44 service route on GetGasCert. Mixed or unusual installations should be described before booking so the correct scope can be confirmed.

What happens when the job is outside a fixed-price certificate service?

CP15, CP16, CP17, plant-room and broader commercial work is assessed from the site details and quoted according to the required scope.

Does a certificate replace servicing or repairs?

No. Inspection, servicing, fault diagnosis, remedial work and certification are distinct activities. Findings may identify work that needs to be completed separately.

Still uncertain?

Send the site details before choosing

For mixed installations, plant rooms, pipework projects or unclear certificate requirements, use the commercial quotation route rather than selecting a fixed-price service by guesswork.
